ICANN宣布，将启动新通用顶级域名全球宣传计划，预计在2012年1月12日正式开放申请，首轮开放时间仅为3个月。任何符合新申请条件的公司、注册机构、组织都可以提交申请，并在ICANN批准后成为该新通用顶级域名的注册局。

　　中国万网官方微博率先发布该消息后，引发了众多域名投资商和知名企业的评论与关注。新顶级域名提案经过六年的激烈辩论与公开意见征集，终于尘埃落定，ICANN董事会主席Peter Dengate在会上激动地宣布：“今天的决定将迎来一个新的网络时代，我们今天的努力已经为下一代提供了一个更有创造力和灵感的平台！”

　　据介绍，Facebook、HP、Nokia、Google等众多国际知名品牌均参与了此次ICANN会议，并把申请新顶级域名视为企业品牌战略发展的重要内容。

　　新通用顶级域名的开放，意味着品牌企业的角色将从被动地注册与保护域名，转变为主动地在互联网上建立自己的顶级域名。特别对跨区域经营、拥有丰富产品线、多品牌运作的品牌而言，把品牌注册成为通用顶级域名具有重要的战略意义。同时，新顶级域名将大大阻止钓鱼网站的猖獗，提高网络安全性。

　　据了解，.com域名一直占据霸主地位，全球将近1亿的注册量导致了传统域名资源告急，企业花费上百万美元高价购买域名的事件屡见不鲜。传统的顶级域名已成新时代发展的瓶颈，被打破和取代的趋势不可逆转。

　　业内人士分析称，这或许将引发新一轮的互联网域名资产争夺战，但也为很多国内企业构建市场布局、发展企业品牌和国际化战略提供了更多机会。
